Galaxy group in Eridanus

This is a nice little group which, rather surprisingly, is not often imaged. While the galaxies are not big, they still reveal some detail.

Great shot Geoff! Some interesting shapes going on, particularly with 1723. Some interaction maybe?

That's lovely Geoff. Well worth the effort. A feeling of a slow ballet (or at least a scrum) with much interaction between the players.

Great image Geoff and nicely processed, even have some lovely licks of Galactic Cirrus in there, cool! I agree, not many images of these babies out there, what little beauties they are...and huh..I thought I had a pretty good knowledge of all the cool galaxies and galaxy groups to image out there ...but I don't recall coming across these there is so much up there huh? they are a great group!

Nice job mate, thanks for the view

Mike

Hi Geoff,
I've had a good search on Google and I can't find a better image anywhere
of NGC 1723 or the galaxy group.
Is yours the best image ever taken?
It could be.

cheers
Allan

That’s great Geoff. A busy family of galaxies that I haven’t met and a hint of Galactic Cirrus to boot

Thanks Marcus. I agree about 1723. Those flared arms don't look natural. I checked the redshifts and they are all quite close, except for 1721 which is a bit of an outlier. However, it could just be due to motion within the group rather than an indicator of different distance.

Thanks Mike. I was a bit worried about the cirrus. Real or artifact? But then I stretched one of Joe's images to buggery and it showed up.
I was lucky enough to stumble across this group here https://telescopius.com/deep-sky/obj...gc-1728/galaxy

Thanks Allan. Nice comment, but in a three horse race it's not too hard to come out a winner

Thanks Andy. Fortunately the main area of interest was pretty small in the wide FLI 16803 field, so it was nice and easy to experiment with different framing and cropping.
