HELP - PST and Photos of Sun

Has any one used a PST for photos of the sun?

How do you do it?

What cameras can be used?

Can I use meade's LPI for the camera?

Hi Gavan. You can use a DSLR, Webcam, DMK, G-Star, DSI, LPI, SBIG in fact just about any camera you want. However the proof of the pudding is in the eating. By far the best results will be achieved using a mono camera where you can use the full resolution of every pixel. Using a colour camera you will only be recording in the red pixels (1/4 of the chip though there will probably be some leakage to neighbouring pixels). The DMKs and G-Star would be a good starting area, though a ToUcam and other webcam style cameras will work because of a natural 'dithering' movement of the sun due to seeing, ie you will get better resolution due to the movement of the sun than if the sun were perfectly still.

Yep as Paul says.

I have tried a DSLR, ToUcam and DMK21A04.AS and 41AU02.AS. By far the best results are with either of the DMKs. You will probably need to modify the nose piece of the DMKs to achieve focus though.

Al.

I think I have an atm thread about that somewhere Al. Let me have a peak.

Nope, can't find it and I know the original photos are on another computer. Maybe I'll get a chance to find them later. But you will have to have a fairly short adapter to get the camera chip as close to the PST as you can. Either that or use a Barlow. That got me enough focus initially until I took to my adapter with a dremil.
