Help needed

Hi,
This is my first attempt of imaging Mars using the DMK21AF04.AS. As you can see something has gone horribly wrong. Actually this is what happens for every image. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Bob

Hi Bob
It looks completely black to me?
How do you know Mars was in the field of view?

Or was it an image of clouds?

Hi Bob,

I think it is always a good idea to try some terrestrial shots first. This way you can get an idea of the focus position, software, balance and so on all when there is good sunlight. Next I would try at night in the backyard and shoot anything, even just some stars.

Then when you have all the issues sorted, off to your favourite imaging site.

Hi Zuts,
I took your advice and aimed the telescope at some trees. The live feed on the laptop is very blurry. In fact you wouldn't even know that they trees. The telescope is in focus. Is there a way to get rid of the blur using the IC Capture 2.0 program? Do I need an eye piece attached to the camera?

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,

I havnt used your camera before so maybe someone else can help. I have to ask the obvious question though. How do you know the telescope is in focus if you cant see the trees? Unless you have an eyepiece parfocalized with the camera then you cant be sure. Remember the camera has a different focal length than an eyepiece so in general focusing the scope then swapping in the camera would mean the camera is not focused.

Sometimes to get cameras to come to focus in a DOB you need to move the mirror up the tube. Sometimes in refractors you need to add an extension tube to get focus.

One suggestion. PHD guiding is easy to get focus on. If you download this and use it then you should get something. If you rack the focuser all the way in and all the way out in small steps and still cant get anything then you need to shorten or lengthen your optical train to get focus, .... or the camera is busted maybe?

Sorry I cant be of more help.

Paul
