Got my New Toy :D

Well i got my new toy's today.

QHY9mono from Gama Electronics
and a SX 7 position filterwheel with Baader LRGB filters
and SX OAG with Baader MPCC mkiii

i chose this system as it was the cheapest way i could get an OAG 7 position mono camera. I drew out the light path and with the new MPCC which from the m48 thread is 57.5mm.

Without filters the entire light path is exactly 57mm add on 0.66mm for the filters and another .33mm for the glass infront of the CCD sensor and you have a grand total of 57.99mm

The filterwheel is a work of art, I literally pluged and played has had no issues finding filter locations (even as yet unassigned NB filter positions). Filters went in without a hitch (although i am unsure if i installed facing the right way There where V's on the edge i put them all facing away from the CCD).

The CCD has been a real breeze to use (even easier then my QHY8L). All in all total time to assembly package from scratch 30mins plus an hour to find the correct gain and offset which appears to be 24%gain 105 offset.

I will do a right up on the entire setup once i get it out in the dark but so far i am impressed.

On a side note all objects where ordered on the same day and arrived on the same day ... many of them from Germany lol

Nice setup. Are you running with the 12mm external window on the QHY9 Grady?

Its looking a lot like my new setup. I still have the 5 position qhy wheel, but I have mated it to a TS OAG9. I am interested to see if you still get good correction from the MPCC slightly out of spec like that, hopefully you will be ok.

How can you get the 55mm from sensor to MPCC with it in front of the OAG and filter wheel? Confused. If you want the correct distance you'll have to mount it at best between the camera and the OAG if it's thin enough. You already have 15 or 19mm from camera face to sensor so that leaves you only 26mm to play with.

the mk3 MPCC has the removable T-mount thread so you can screw straight into the M48 thread behind makes it 57.5mm backfocus instead of 55mm

the spaceings are as followed
15mm CCD
25mm for Filterwheel minus one side thread because the OAG attaches directly to the SX filterwheel)
13mm for OAG
4mm for the MPCC to OAG adaptor

15+25+13+4= 57mm

add on .66mm for the 2mm thick baader filters and you get 57.66mm optical path

$3925 - including shipping for all items.
i had the filters and the MPCC send sepratly from the filterwheel and OAG to avoid going over the GST threshold for purchases (not sure if i needed to do this or if it only applies to individual items over $1000) these meant i had to pay an extra $44 euro in shipping. euro rate from nab i got was 0.669 EURO to 1 AUD if i remember correct think it is .6707 atm.

$2511 for QHY9
rest was Euro
$1414 AUD

edit needed to order the m48 female adaptor for the OAG as well which was $60AUD

Wow thats $2500 less than the QSI setup i have been looking into

QSI 683wsg with LRGB, OIII, SII and Ha 31mm unmounted filters from astronomik

Hmm....If there is virtually no difference in the final picture quality that can be produced and the premium is solely for the purpose building of the QSI cam with the built in filterwheel then really i dont know why i would be wasting all that money just to say I have a QSI.....what are they the Prada of CCD cameras??

John
