Internet Security

I am currently subscribed to AVG "Internet Security" which is due to lapse soon. I have found that this seems to provide adequate internet security but I am a bit tired of their hard sell approach and their frequent inopportune pop up messages urging me to "upgrade".
Any opinions on a good alternative internet security package which will leave me in peace?

I use a Mac have no issues with internet security down loaded Sophos (free) and in 4 years no issues .
used to use a windows machine but with updates all the time it drove me mad there are a lot of astro programs popping up now for the mac but still a lot more windows based .I still have my windows tough book and its a great machine but the security software requires updates nearly every time I use it
the software is Mcafee anti virus .

We've been using Windows Defender anti-virus and Malwarebytes Premium and they seem to catch everything - no problems so far.
Any nasties come in the form of sly email attachments/links or hidden inside downloads.

2nd thumbs up for Malwarebytes Premium - catches everything so far, especially dodgy websites.

Comodo is free and better than most, used it for years. Still , none of them are perfect and give you false sense of a clean system. I dont rely on them and your habits are the weakest link in securit anyway.

Try Avast free , it is very good as well , I use it with Windows 10 Defender and have not had any problems .

I've been using Norton Internet Security for the last 3 years and it works a treat, but probably one of the more expensive solutions. I would avoid anything that is free.....by and large, you get what you pay for.

I too use Malwarebytes, also been using Eset for around 10 years, great program, and very unobtrusive. It has an anti-ransomeware engine as well now.

I used AVG for over 10 years, including paid version for last 5 years.

However, AVG has fallen in review ratings in recent years so this year I changed to Bitdefender (paid). Bitdefender rankings are near the top.

Free antiviruses do get good reviews but I decided to go paid because of extra security features. I really don't want my finances nor ID compromised.

I agree with you Peter, AVG popups for upgrading were becoming too frequent. Bitdefender hardly ever sends popups.

However, AVG gui was great - very simple.

I've used Norton/Symantec back in the days, then Zonelabs for years and finally now I'm using a Fortinet hardware gateway. That's very easy to use and updates daily. There's a thin client for each device when you connect outside of your LAN but one point of entry which is your router. So the traffic gets filtered at the source, not on each device.

This is what I've been running for years too.
Couldn't agree more, Eset is very unobtrusive.
