Capture the Cosmos under the Warrumbungle Sky astrophotography competition

An astrophotography competition initiative of the Warrumbungles Shire
as part of the recent International Dark Sky Week celebration.

https://cosmos.myphotoclub.com.au/

Though there are categories open to shooting photos from anywhere
in the world, I urge you to try and get out to Coonabarabran and the
Warrumbungles.

The area has been hit hard by drought and every dollar you spend out there
helps the local community.

The walk up to the top of the Grand High Tops has re-opened and surely
this could make one of the most spectacular backdrops for a nightscape
anywhere in Australia, so put your hiking boots on.

Yeah, i have astro photos taken at out there last April, but they would be out of the bracket. And I certainly will not be paying a $50 entry fee.

Yeah, $50 entry is a bit off-putting for a first time competition with undisclosed prizes. I may enter the deep space category, I dunno... entries close 1st of August so have a while to decide.

On a related topic, the Malin awards are $15 per entry. Pretty sure that was $10 in previous years, so that's gone up too..

Thanks for the heads up Gary...appreciated.

It seems to me It's about helping the town out and I'd be happy to donate the $50.00 If you could direct me and If they even except donation.

PM me please.

I have no interest in the competition.

Louie and Marc, I might have missed it but where in the competition blurb does it say this competition is being run in any way to help raise funds for any drought stricken area and/or that you can donate to this cause? Where does it indicate where the entry fee funds are being directed? The competition is hosted by MyPhotoClub, an online organisation

Ah Ok, I thought I just couldn't find the reference...so it was just Gary adding that as an extra thought into his OP...ok Not so sure there is any significant connection between the $50 entry fee and the region then..?

According to the facebook page this is "A new initiative of the Warrumbungle Shire Council Economic Development & Tourism Committee" I'm not sure MyPhotoClub has much to do it with it

Seems they're trying to drive people to the area, thus why one of the categories can only be entered if it was captured in the area.

Another quote from their facebook page: "So many awesome reasons to come to the Warrumbungle Shire and Capture the Cosmos!"

And further to the discussion of fees, someone complained and they responded:

"Sorry if it makes you angry Jacob. The entry is a fee you pay once only and you can enter twice in each of the 3 sections at no additional cost. The committee decided on this to cover the cost of the website and the printing of winning photographs and other expenses for the final exhibition."

"The decision on the fee was not taken lightly, the committee sought advice from people with experience in photography competition and photography exhibiting. We had the difficult decision to balance the cost of a quality exhibition and the entry fee. You as a photographer do not need to print your images and can enter more than once with that single fee. Hopefully in the future we can reduce the fee to grow and encourage more participation. I hope that gives you some background as to our deliberations."
