Astrophotography is hard

Had a great imaging session last night. Three+ glorious hours of cloud free sky. I had hoped to get a nice red layer for the Helix. I stacked the subs, but something didn't look right with a stretch. The stars looked bloated and the nebula didn't stand out. I go down to the obs today and... had the filter wheel set for straight through - no filter. Everything was flooded with unwanted IR.

If it's not one thing it's another. One session I'll have a night where everything goes right. But not this year.

At least you didn't forget to remove the Bahtinov mask or turn off high speed downloads after focusing, or ... a dozen other things

It is Suavi. Another night of failure ahead for me. Teamviewer has already disconnected itself.

Nah I remembered to focus. But the f4 doesn't stay that way for long.

I still feel like I've forgotten something though.

Cloudy here now too. Only doing 1 minute subs so maybe I'll get a sub or two in the gaps.

Clear down here although with the temperature drops I’m focusing every 35 minutes and my 12” dob mirror cannot keep up!

I normally lose 1 in 10 subs from my terrible lack of smoothness in my mount. Just uploaded 350 subs of lagoon that turned into 240. 25% gone !

Running Sculptor now after a realign. Let's see what obstacles this session throws up.

2nd clear night in over 2 weeks, something has to go wrong....

And then one night you remember everything, and the sky is clear and moonless, and the seeing is great, and focus is sharp, but the f4 scope decides that pointing in *that* direction it will introduce some weird aberration and wreck every frame.....

Yeah I can relate to all of the above. It's "usually" the cloud that wrecks it for me, hence my preference for short subs. But now with an astro cam and computers, I'm learning new swear words for windows. I've also discovered that my 100AH deep cycle battery only has 20AH of real capacity left in it before the inverter turns off.
