Thanks Trevor,

It kind of makes me think why don't we know about these things? Maybe if your interested then contact a paper and send some photos of the differences between these two different obs and what they can do. Inform people what really happens but make it personal and relevant to the perth obs. Couple of cool pictures of what they've been doing all this time will gather much more interest than a thousand words that mean nothing to most people. Sparking peoples imagination will win you hearts. You guys know and I'm starting to learn what astronomy is about but the general wouldn't have the foggiest and maybe that's the problem they/I just don't know any better so it's easy to not care what happens.

Good luck
Simmo

Its a very sad day indeed that any scientific research is curtailed. Qld has nothing but a planetarium so we are the poor cousins of Australian Astronomy, and from what I have heard, Brisbane City Council would rather see the back of that!

Politically I can sort of understand why State Govt would not be interested in the science part (shame on them for not supporting outreach). I doubt though that our Federal members could give, er, whatever either and that is the tragedy, but it is they that I would be door knocking...

Most of them wouldn't know one end of a telescope from another unless someone shoved one up their ......

If there is no money in it or it can't win them votes then they're not interested. They would rather spend $1/2 billion on a footy stadium that will be used by less than 50% of the polpulation

They get rid of things that are making a profit too.
Rally Oz was making a profit, albeit a small one compared to other events, but it was a profit.
Our state government dropped it in favour of the Red Bull air-race.... where is that now?
I could never understand why they couldn't support both events. Crazy.
