PHD2 Odd behaviour

I have been using PHD2 for a while now. I am noticing something odd, at least to me, since apgrading to the Orion Atlas AZ/EQ g Mount. My graph seems to be happily running and all of a sudden the dec line starts jumping up and down fairly wildly. Looks like it starts over compensating and cannot get it back.
I though it may be due to the scope not being balanced well enough but I think my balance is not bad now, but still getting the effect.

Any ideas?

Malcolm

Hi Malcolm

I have had a similar problem with the DEC and PHD2 controlling my EQ6.
If I may ask, how did you solve the problem?

Cheers

My post (and problem) is a bit unrelated to this discussion.... but maybe someone can help me ?

There was no problem installing PHD on my lap (XP pro, SP3)... it worked only once ( I think after that I needed to install dot.net and ASCOM platform). After that I am getting a system message "not initialized properly, exiting". PHD1 behaves the same.

Interestingly, there is no problem on my desktop (same OS), and other lap (w7 home).
However, I want to run it on that Dell Latitude because it is small and because of LPT port (and ST-4 interface)
Please let me know if there are some ideas.. (I posted on Yahoo group, but it seems noone knows anything about it).

Also, Metaguide behaves in the same way.. While K3CCD and GuideDog wboth work OK.

I had a play with the aggressiveness setting for DEC. I think actually posting on IIS made me think about what was going on and when i looked at the settings, I noted that the aggressiveness settings in RA and DEC they were 45 and 100 respectively. As it is only in DEC that the issue arises, it was something worth trying. Dropped it down to 45 on the DEC axis and it sat and run beautifully for over 30 minutes.

Hopefully will be able to test again tonight to see if I get a similar result.

Good luck Malcolm,
I have mine on 50 Aggressiveness and 0.35 Min Movement.
Balancing is critical. I found a simple slide of the counterweight or scope can help depending on which axis is playing up.

Thanks Malcolm

I'll give it a try next time I'm setting up.

Thanks for that. The settings I am now using are pretty close to those and seem to be working OK.
I am thinking of trying to rig up a simple adjustble sliding weight to make balancing the ED80 a bit easier, have plenty of spare capacity in the mount with that scope and should be easier than trying to slide the whole scope and guidescope setup as a unit.

Cheers
