Home Position in EQMOD

I am determined to make EQMOD work for me. But it's putting up a fight. The problem seems to be a mixture of alignment and basic configuration of the software.
I believe my EQ6 (which is pier-mounted) is pretty well aligned. But whenever I use EQMOD my go-tos are way off and I just noticed that when I Park to Home position, the Altitude is right on but the azimuth is 1.8 degrees off (it reads 181.8 or some such instead of 180.

Well, I've had the spirit levels and ouiji board out and set the levels again and then, when it seemed to me the scope was pointing 180 deg Az, ans the Alt remained right, tried to reset the Home or Park position to that, so the scope would return to that position on a Park command: but the beast seems determined to return to 181.8 deg. I can't find muvh help on this issue in the docs or furm s and wondered if there was anyone knowledgeable in the wonderful world of ASCOM, EQMOD, who can help me with this.

Wild stab, in the planetarium software, are you using J2000 or JNow for your epochs? Is it the same as in EQMOD (if such a feature exists)?

I don't know if this has anything to do with anything, but, it's a stab in the dark.

Humayun

G'day Terry. I'm using Cartes de Ciel because it is less graphics-intensive and therefore seems to use less of the CPU than others - and it's ASCOM-friendly (supposedly).

Thanks Hamuyan. I'll have to dig a bit to get to the answer to that. The short answer is FIIK (I don't know).

I had this problem a few weeks back.

You may find that you need to align again but the trick is to first reset the align data. That way your home position returns to the preset position. If you don't and simply power down your mount and then fire it up again, you'll find you head back to the same alignment.

Hope that helps

Pete

I'm a recent convert to EQMOD.
I have a HEQ5pro, Ascom V5.5, EQMOD v1.18m and CdCV3.0.1.6
If you set it up to give you a good "Home" position I find in works 100%

Hi Merlin66. That's encouraging. How have you connected up the EQMOD? I assume you have an EQDIR in there somewhere. Have you put that on the PC? And from there, what cable did you use to the mount? Did you just use the cable with the RS-232 and RJ12 that came with the mount? And did you put that into the handpiece or the handpiece socket on the mount itself?

My EQMOD setup is:
Keyspan USB>serial adaptor on a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop..
Then a 10mtr serial extension into the Shoestring EQDIR module
then the serial 9 pin connector to the RJ 12 socket on the HEQ5pro mount.
The original Synscan handcontroller is not used.
It works VERY well for me.
