Focuser upgrade thoughts

Hey folks for those in the know

Looking to upgrade skywatcher ed80 focuser and emailed moonlite. Response below

Yes, please look at the CFL model for a complete automated setup for your SW ED80

Here would be the configuration--

Qty1 CFL 2.5" format focuser $345
Color = ?
Flange = Synta
Drawtube = 4.5" travel 68mm
Knob/Motor = High res stepper motor with mini V2 controller $340
Finder brackets = Reg style

Qty1 68mm to Synta adapter $59 ( for your reducer)
--------------------------------------------------
$844 plus shipping

Anyway. Thiughts on this or anything as a good upgrade with motirfocus?

Regards
Ben

Hi Ben,

The Moonlite is a great investment. I bought a similar one/setup for a different scope a couple of years ago and they are fantastic. Paid about the same too. As for other suitable focusers for the ed80, I'm not familiar but others here on IIS sure would be.

Cheers,
Damien.

I have been using the Moonlite CHL version that is made for the Edge scopes. Works very well and nicely made. I se an FT on my refractor, both are great products

Moonlite is nice but if you plan on doing any imaging especially with heavy camera then also consider FT rack/pinion focusers.

Yeh definitely an imaging rig. Dslr for now but will be ccd and filterwheel and oag in the future

Just unsure what options are there. Ive googled moonlite, featherlite and baader steel track so far. The moonlite is kind of winning out purely as it has full motordrive and rotator if i wanted to as one package

Do you intend to use the same scope once you move to CCD? IMO if you have short to medium term plan of changing equipement you need to factor that in.

I put a Moonlite motor focus on my 150mm achro and it's a different scope (ie usable!). As I'm visual only I went with the DC servo motor and I'm very happy. Now I want one for each of my scopes.

The same scope forseeable for the next couple years. When i do upgrade im looking at the WO range but in similar fl so any camera i buy should be an ok swap. Just my ed80 focuser is getting beyond repair now ive stripped it numerous times in its long lifetime with me
