Nikon 14-24mm zoom lens question

I've just bought one of the Nikon G 14 -24mm zoom lenses for my d700, and have a question about the zoom ring: with my lens it is tighter to turn at the 14mm end, getting more loose when turning to the 24mm setting.
Is this usual for these lenses?
The lens settings; 24, 20, 18, 16, 15, 14 are not linear, but a sort of a logarithmic type of layout, would this be why it moves as it does?

Interested to hear from other 14-24 lens owners; also whether more lenses have this method of zooming.

Cheers John

A colleague of mine has the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 ED (the nano-coated one) and he has the same issue at 55mm.

My 14-24 f/2.8 ED shows a little additional resistance just before 18mm when going from 24mm to 14mm. It's not noticeable going the other direction. It's never bothered me...

Cheers,
Rick.

Hi John
just checked mine and its smooth either way but if you point it up 14 - 24 requires less effort because of all that glass moving with gravity rather than against it as moving 24 - 14 .
