You may also enjoy the work of 'the omnific'. You'll never look at a bass the same way again.

Have a look at this guy; Zander Zon...

Admittedly, he uses 'Piccolo' strings on his bass which gives him some significantly different tuning options including getting up into guitar octaves however, it's how he combines his tunings plus his wonderful talent that enables him to play some truly beautiful music.

Enjoy:

Talent to burn and he's quite a showman. I'm wondering whether the upside down left hand fingering allows him to do anything he couldn't do conventionally or whether it's part of the show. I'll have a look at more of his videos.

I stopped looking at a bass the same way ages ago . It's not as complex but there was this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xrZ61cuKLk

And these aren't basses, but they're not guitars either https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgLL...I2kLYbCOlae0rQ

Keep your guitar and just enjoy whatever you can do. You'll earn just as little as some very good musicians .

In the folk scene that is entirely normal. That combination is perhaps unusual because of the three different right hand techniques but I know one person who can play those three (guitar he plays well but the other two just OK - but he's also very good on mando). I can think of a few people who play guitar, mando and fiddle and more who play 2 of those 3.

Hi David
The upside down thing with the left hand is a technique called "tapping".
The amp is set to be able to pick up the "tap" which sounds without the string being struck by the right hand ...so if you are clever you can play two aspects at once say bass with the right hand and "tapp" the melody with the left hand.
He is not the best "tapper" out there and most tap with the guitar in normal position.
Its not that hard if you use an amp and although doable with an acoustic it takes effort.
