Dark Lagoon

I took this up North. 130 of 30 second 8 inch f5 nikon d5500 1600 iso heq5 mount attempted process in photoshop and gimp.

Cropped about 50 % of capture.

The colour was something considering everything I did up there is near colourless....but the colour in this was dictated by if it looked sharp and not washy.

anyways its Saturday night and I though I would be social and share my lattest effort.

Really like the second one Alex. I imaged M8 a couple of weeks ago and didn't do a very good job of keeping detail in the core but you've done it well.

I stacked data from Sydney and from Tabulm to get near two hours but the back ground had grave problems and away I started playing around in gimp and now present Lagoon in an unconventional way but I tried to get depth and a sence of being there...So as an artistic rendition.
The first stack took hours and DSS stacker crashed ..next run there was no image on screen but everything was there so I saved what was not there but it fortunately appeared when I opned the file in gimp.

Alex,

Your Lagoon pic has inspired me to have a bash myself. I don't think this example warrants it's own thread however. Don't mind if I tag along?

Taken with a C6 on Nextar 6/8 Alt-AZ mount. 10x 10sec exposures at ISO 6400 - with a Nikon D800. Processed in DSS.

I really need to save for an EQ mount!

Hi Andy
By all means put it here but it deserves its own thread.
To get that with out a eq mount is remarkable.
Well done.

Andy it just occurred to me. The results you can get from short exposures means you could use an old mount from the no goto days.
Sure you have to find objects manually but for short exposures you could run them unguided.
I have an old moint like that and they msy be arou d up your way but they would be cheap.

You may be interested in the altaz images by IIS member Wayne Anderson. He posted some really excellent work a while back.

I thought seriously about the method but stuck with the GEM.

Thanks Alex, for your consideration. I'm always trolling the classifieds these days. I was saving for a SW AZ-EQ6 (12 months away at current rate). Then I read your post to another newdude, where you suggested keeping the AZ mount "for visual, whilst your EQ collects photons" (or similar). With that in mind, the Nexstar 6 mount will probably stay with me forever, just for that reason. Now that this AZ mount is staying with me, I figure I can save a bit, and get an EQ6-R instead (I won't need the AZ function). Thanks again for your constant wisdom

That was a good read, and shows just what is possible. I won't feel so bad now waiting for the EQ6-R, which is further down the track than I'd like. I see now, the Nexstar 6 can give better, if I apply myself. Thankyou for that!
