They're baaaaaaaack....

OK, got me stumped - what the hell are the star spikes at top right:

https://www.astrobin.com/full/352941/0/

It did it with my FSQ-85 with the STF-8300C occasionally, and now in 2 subs out of the 12 with the FSQ-106 and the SXVR-M26CC.

FSQ-85 and STF version - this time upper left:

https://www.astrobin.com/338934/D/?nc=user

Is this an occasional micro-lense "thing"? I have no idea otherwise, unless a spider "bungee" web drifted across (I have run into "drifting" spiders too often out here ).

Doesn't bother me, just want to know what the heck it is - it's not equipment directly, as the equipment has changed completely (not a single thing is the same between these images apart from the guidescope and mount )

I had a similar effect from diffraction with the OAG for bright stars near the edge where the prism was.

No OAG. I use a guide scope. NOTHING is the same in this imaging rig than previously except the guidescope lol.

The sky is the same too. Maybe the spikes really are on the stars

It isn't a pic of Spica by any chance??

Looks like be a cable from power lines (or some other structure) getting in the way at some orientations of the scope - such cable (or a tree branch) would cause occasional spikes when it gets in the way of bright stars.

Could be Suavi - I certainly have fights with trees especially in the wee hours

I only mentioned that because I had the same effect and realised that branches were getting in the way.

I just went out to my imaging pad and estimated 1.5 deg of sky (the size of the FSQ 106 circle) and indeed one eucalypt would interfere around zenith.

Now to ask the authorities nicely if that limb could be trimmed.

I've seen that on my wide-field lens when there was dew on the objective, was there dew on your scope??

Nope, it was indeed the tree.

Here's a run from last night that came nowhere near zenith. No odd spikes...

Chainsaw the whole thing. I have been waiting nearly a year for the 'authorities' to remove a dangerous dead tree hanging over my garage.

Here's my zenith.

It's only that ONE darned branch - you can see the rest are well behaved
