M17 Swan Nebula in NB....deepish

Hi Guys
M17 Swan Nebula in Colour Mapped Narrowband
Taken on my RCOS 10" RC Scope at f9, SBIG STXL6303E Camera and PME mount at itelescopes Siding Spring Observatory.
Processed with CCDstack, Star Tools and Photoshop. 52 hrs Total exposure time.
Ha, SII,Ha,OIII. Mapped as LRGB in "modified Hubble"
The Swan Nebula (also known as the Omega Nebula) is between 5,000 and 6,000 light-years from Earth and it spans some 15 light-years in diameter
Ha 32hrs, 40min subs bin1. SII 18hrs 40min subs bin2, OIII 12hrs 40min subs bin2.

Big here

Lots of SII in this one as it turns out, provided a lot of data .

Quite a few stars were sacrificed for artistic effect because they are annoying

I pushed Ha pretty hard (as lum), it was a pleasure to be able to without being buried in noise, its fairly bright.

It can be dangerous when you start considering sacrificing stars to the gods, who knows what'll happen

The end result is very nice though, very deep in hydrogen!

A white swan swimming on a flaming lake. One roast swan coming up.

The depth is most impressive, as is the treatment of the dust lanes especially toward the less-often-photographed left side.

Thanks Steve, I was surprised how much extra nebula appeared.

Thanks Colin. Guiding would become difficult . The depth did make the whole nebula look less recognisable though.

Cheers Mike, the composition to show the left side wasn't planned, just good luck.

A very striking Swan, Fred! I've never been happy with my SHO images of M17 but yours is most impressive

Wow, that's a different look. The depth shows it in a totally different way.

Greg.

Love it Fred, big bold colours - Like a Gauguin in Space!
If one nitpics, it appears you may have missed a few red stars bottom right & top left though.
Well done, all hail the King of NB!

There is a lot of Ha in that region. You have certainly captured a lot of that.
