What a beauty!

After endless shipping delays I finally received today a bargain I snapped up on the webz, an 8mm Brandon. It is a beauty to behold, looking almost exactly like the eyepieces bundled with the $50 Aldi table-top Dob.

After looking at it in sheer amazement I got chance to look through it during our outreach night tonight, mostly at Saturn. Guess what, narrow-angle light scatter is a thing, and not just something my poor old eyes produce. Who would have guessed, after all the online controversy and denials. This eyepiece is the first sub-10mm one I've tried that doesn't have it!

So far I've been fairly blasé about the multi- vs. single-MgF2 coating debate. But I've chosen my side now. This eyepiece is a keeper.

Apparently SR = Super Ramsden. Very modern eyepieces that Aldi sells!

Since you're looking for decent planetary eyepieces, how about a mint and unused SR6?

Since you are collecting SR eyepieces, I've got a couple more to swap you for your Brandon
