Lets use the term heros and stars in the right context

Hi Guys,

We hear a lot about the word Hero's and Stars in relation to sports people who just kick a ball around a grass field.

These people who are as we speak risking theirs lives to get those young boys and their coach out of that flooded cave are in my book truly hero's
I pray that all survive and are safe

I have to agree Leon, as great as these sportsmen are or how hard we might aspire to be them, it pales in comparison to those who risk their everything to help others - Greater love hath no man than to lay down, or risk his life, for another.

Best

Well said!!!
What a massive task. The planning and coordination have to be spot on.
Wish them success and bring them all out safe and sound.

And they are now all out!
What an incredible achievement. The professionalism of the divers and the medics, the bravery of the boys and let’s never forget Saman Gunan, the ex Navy SEAL who volunteered and made the ultimate sacrifice.

Having spent a day underground in a wild cave in my younger days - with the NPWS I should add - I think there is a lot not being said at this stage. After 40 years the experience still gives me nightmares, frankly.

One thing I noticed tonight is a remark that the boys had been "medically sedated" to stop panic attacks. It suggests to me the boys were sedated, the breathing gear put on and they were pulled through only half-conscious by the SEALs rather than doing it on their own effort.

I can fully understand this for kids at their age and in the state they must be in.
What's far worse will be the psychological effect for many years to come.

Heros: definitely yes, Saman Gunan and the SEALS and the rest of the rescue team, for pulling off something I for one did not expect.

Stars ?!? no, none. Idiots, frankly, for entering a cave which is known to be hazardous, and disregarding all the warning signs not to enter it in monsoon season. And relying on the "leadership" of an uneducated idiot which is what the Thai monks frankly are.

They are only alive thanks to the heroic efforts made by others, that doesn’t make them “stars”.

10:1 the lawyers are lining up right now to “manage” the PR, book and film rights.

Just checked the news and they are all out safely. Great!

And Elon Musk, himself, made an appearance!

Heroes they are indeed . Just a fantastic effort by these guys. I am a qualified Dive Control Specialist and Rescue Diver and still cannot begin to imagine just how difficult this rescue has been.

Those guys are the role models we should be telling our children about, not the thugs we see on TV every other day.

The fact an experienced army diver lost his life just reminds us how dangerous the whole operation was. I guess you don't know how hard it is unless you're on the ground. I'm sure they'll make a movie. Manchester United invited to fly the kids for a game of their choice whenever. I though that was great. Having said that I'm glad France made it to the final but if Croatia beats England there might be tensions at home.

All out and safe, that is just so fantastic, these divers are just so special and should be nominated accordingly but they will probably say it is what we do, God bless them all

Leon

PS, I don't think we need a movie out of all this you cant act what is so real IMHO

What an achievement these guys have done esp all the team who did all the prep work. Just to get 1 diver through there is staging tanks, guide lines that need to be in place. Also the emptys need to been removed and it looked like some places they used oxygen rebreathers and these are pretty precise intrumenfs to keep calibrated especially in the dark.
About 25 years ago I went along for a dive on the "Lake Illawara" which brought down a section of the Hobart bridge in the Derwent.
It sits in about 120 feet of freezing cold water with a strong current and about 2m viability. I went with professional salvage divers who have been for at least 50 dives on this ship.
To be brief I went inside and was lost in zero viability for about a minute with walls and ceiling around me and clouds of bilowing silt what ever way I went.
Next a hand on my shoulder and a guide out (about 20-30 feet).
I can imagine what these kids must have been through and how cool and methodical the divers are to work in these conditions.
I had a minute of panic and its still etched in my head 25 years later so these kids will have some permanent mental scars.
Condolences to the diver who didn't make it out alive.
Cheers
Andy

What an amazing outcome. Congratulations to all those involved.

There was nothing even remotely easy about that operation. It is a testament to human nature to rescue those poor children. We can do good in this world when we want to.

My condolences to the family of the Thai navy diver who gave his life to rescue them.

From what I understand the boys went in on their own and the coach went in later to try and get them out ...

A man died because of that stupidity. I wouldn't call that a blessing.
