Astrophotography with a Canon 300mm f4L IS lens

How well would a Canon 300mm f4L IS lens perform for Astrophotography?

With my ST-8300/FW5-8300 combo + SBIG's Canon EOS Lens adapter + said lens...hmmmm. Portable is one advantage but how would it perform.

Thanks for the kind words guys!
There's a number of images on my photobucket page taken with the 300mm f4L IS lens. It's a great day or nightime lens, great colour and very flat field. I sold mine and have regreted that decision since - but my recently purchased 400mm f5.6L seems to be just as nice.
I don't think you would regret buying this lens - the built in hood is a great bit of design and the 2 IS functions are great too.
One warning point...astro capability wasn't too flash when used with 1.4x extender. A noticeable amount of CA was introduced.
Cheers
Doug
