Ngc253 and Ngc288

Well I had a go last night here in Melbourne at getting NGC 253 and NGC 288 in the same frame with my SW Esprit 100. All went well accept I had to ditch quite a few of my unguided subs due to Periodic Error. I ended up with 20 x 1 min subs @ 800 iso with the Canon 550d unfiltered. It was a balmy night and the scope was almost vertical so I was lying on my back in the driveway in shorts and T shirt looking up at the LCD screen trying to center the objects in the frame, taking a shot, viewing it and adjusting it's position until I was happy with it. When photographing objects this high I wish I had a variable screen on the camera!

Fortunately, it was worth the effort and I am fairly pleased with the result.

That's a great shot Mick. Very artistic framing. Reminds me of space invaders except the mothership is at the bottom and the alien is at the top hehe.
Well done, this is a winner well worth your contortionistic manoeuvring!

Very nice Michael; have you thought about jury rigging a small mirror
attached to your camera?

Perfect framing and nicely resolved!
If I was outside my house in Melbourne in shorts and a t-shirt I’d have been had all of my blood sucked out of my by the thousands of mosquitoes!

I can see how it does look like an old Arcade computer game but the only space invader around was me! Glad you liked the shot.

Pat, that's almost the same focal length I used the other night using the Nano Tracker.

That's OK , it fits in with my shot and gives another perspective using a different set up.

Raymo I get confused enough trying to work out which arrow to press to move the object the way I want it to go and throwing in a mirror which will reverse the image may send me around the twist!

Thanks Colin, the mozzies strangely enough, didn't seem to bother me this night. I do know what you mean though, sometimes there are so many it makes it most unpleasant.
