The strike last night was not imaginary.
This morning found the land line phone box blown apart.
There is no land line here these days but the old box was left in place. There was a hardwood 2 x3 holding down wire netting on top and that lifted and took a piece out of the house siding.
A neighbour (an official but not active member here) is calling by later to have a look at the system and see what has been damaged.

Hi Alex,
Lucky it didnt hit your telescope!!!
If you have solar panels a lightning strike can fry the lot. In the US its common practice to install lightning rods with solar panels.
My mate in the Adelaide hills had his meter box blown off the wall when the power pole outside his house was struck.
He was lucky that no appliances were damaged but his inverter was fried and was lucky that panels were ok.
I've always thought about having a lightning rod but never done anything about it.
Cheers
Andy
