just to expand on the concept.
I use processing to talk to the dmk(10degree FOV), and now the canon(1degree fov on 80mm refector).
So a combined guiding and imaging solution. The images can be passed to astrotorllia for position data. I can also talk to the meade serial interface. But need to talk to an EQ mount without ascom?
So, a custom solution similar to the proprietary meade starlock?
Check out kstars/ekos/indi under Linux. It should do what you need. I'm using it with an SBig camera, but it has a gphoto2 driver as well. Hooks in to astrotortilla, etc.

Yes , took a quick look, thats what I am looking for. I'll try it out.
But I kinda want to make it myself ...for the fun of it
You could do that, or help build on top on software like this - there's always more stuff that can be added (device support, extra features, etc) so you get a multiplication effect instead of a sort of "reinventing the wheel".
Exactly what problem are you trying to solve? It's not hard to control a Canon DSLR using some of the existing and cheaply or freely available software or hardware even down to a simple remote. This seems to be adding in a layer of software control that isn't really needed. Is it an integration issue, and your seeking to produce what we used to call JCL (Job Control Language) to enable a stream of code to control all aspect of imaging?.
Not a programming jcl.
But using Processing.org to control multiple imagers,
- Allsky imager with cloud and mover detection.
- Wide FOV, either DMK or Cannon
- narrow field imager , while atatched to scope
- a simple position control using astrotorilla
Not up to fine guiding like phd, but with a good telescope alignment,
a step imager, with reposition between taking a frame. Any image drift can be corrected via software.
And a longer project is 3x dmk51 with 25mm lens to make a 45degree meridian transit camera for, things like satellites. With the new edskdk wrapper for processing, I could use a few cannons instead of DMK?
just a lot of fun of be had, not enough time.....
Kind regards, Alan.
