Modifying a DSLR for Infrared & Ultraviolet response

Found a really cool website about how to modify a DSLR camera for greater response in the infrared and the ultraviolet:

This man is a really technical bloke! There are some amazing people out there in cyberspace.

See also sjastro's recent post in the imaging forum, showing his U-band (near ultraviolet) image of the Orion Nebula, which emphasizes more greatly the dust distribution in the Nebula.

I have a Full, "full spectrum" modded 1000D, with both the colour correction and the front anti-alias/ dust shake filters removed.
For spectroscopy it's almost mandatory....
I agree the UV range is extended but, using conventional lenses etc, I didn't see results down to 320nm....probably around 350-360nm.

This almost seems like a silly question - Ken, do you have a spectral response curve for your modified 1000D ?
Did you replace the filter with clear glass, a quartz window or leave it open ?

The attached write up may help understand the response differences between the usual Canon Ha mod ( removing the color correction filter) and the effects of the front anti-alias/ dust shake filter...
I use the "no filters" FULL spectrum mod on the telescope/ spectroscope and add an Astronomik MC (Clear) clip in filter to maintain focus for "objective grating" work where you use std EF lenses.
