Internal reflections?

Hi all,

where do the reflections come from on the bright stars in this image and why are they so prominent? I would appreciate some insight, thanks.

Yeah even some major observatories have weird optical artifacts. You reckon that's bad, you should see the Lowell 13" astrograph pics.

I get the same thing but only with my SII filter. Annoys the crap out of me so I'll be watching this thread to see if any can explain what's going on.

It looks like the halos are only around the stars brighter than about mag 14. It may be they overexposed them to allow the nebulosity and dimmer stars to appear.
