Orion widefield

After blowing off the layers of cobwebs on the gear I managed to nab a small number of photos on the weekend at Heathcote.

This one of the Orion region was done on the greatest overkill setup I've managed - Canon 1100D and Sigma 18-125mm lens atop an EQ6 on one of the ASV piers. It looked ridiculous, made worse by the use of a hammer and pair of vice grips as a counter weight.

It certainly tracked well!

Anyway, I haven't really done much processing (more to do) but I like the field of view and hope to tease a bit more colour and detail out of it.

As always, very welcoming of constructive criticism.

cheers

niko

Thanks for posting Niko, widefield shots of the M42 area are great. I can see a hint of the horsehead and maybe a little processing to improve contrast could bring this out a bit more. Hard to tell beyond that from the thumbnail image.

thanks guys.

Yep, the horsey is in there and I hope to coax it out a bit more. Apologies for the very small image (69kb) - I'm at work and that's what my email system offers as the only resizing of the 70mb file.

I'll have a little more of a play and post again

cheers

Hi Niko,
Sorry to have missed you guys at the weekend, pressures of work etc.
I love the idea of the hammer and pliers, did you get a picture of that.
I will try and make it to the next meeting wherever that may be.
As always the other Nico.

cheers Nico - sorry not to have seen you too. Sadly the weather was a bit hit and miss but as you know that's only ever just a part of the action.

I think Marty has a photo of the counter weight. I'll get him to send it to me

I would have had more data if not for an unfortunate accident with a certain power box!

Great shot Niko,
Now I am really curious about the counterweight setup and the incident with the powerbox...

There are some people who are neat with wiring and others who are not and leave all the wiring and power box in the middle of the road
