Any reason why LRGBUHC imaging wouldn't work?

I was just thinking that if you're shooting LRGBHa, with the intention of using the Ha to add detail to the L channel, is there any reason why you couldn't use a UHC filter instead of the Ha?

The advantage I can see is that it would pick up not only Ha, S2 and O3, but also H-beta - all in the one set of subs. Having them all mixed in together is not a problem if you're not actually going for a NB look, but just enhancing the L channel.

Best,

Markus

How would one integrate it. Use UHC as luminance? I think I did that to the Dumbbell and it turned out pretty well.

I haven't played around too much with this stuff yet, but I'm thinking you could either use the UHC to enhance the L channel, or you could use the UHC as the L channel for the nebula only, and use the standard L channel for the stars?

You'll probably have the same problem with washed out colours that you get when blending Ha into Luminance, but that's solvable with a bit of tweaking. I'm sure you can make it work.

Cheers,
Rick.
