Dark lagoon

I shot this short data-set on the same night as I tested the QHY183c camera , i.e. before the weather went south.

Hopefully we'll see some clear nights north of Mexico soon....
but for now here is a sampler to my next, hopefully epic, "detailed view of a common subject" project

The link is here

As always excellent image Peter, don't you fly planes any more, you seem to have a lot of time imaging, not that I am complaining.

Thanks Leon. Not as much time as I'd like given the recent Sydney weather

Great detail Peter. A great example of how a long focal length can bring so much more to a common target.

Ta Kevin. A work in progress. HaRGB to follow...with hopefully similar seeing to my M42 image from December. (There are many small Bok globs that...seeing permitted...pop into view at higher resolutions )

Hi Peter ...I tend to limit my comments on photos to those of encouragement in the beginners section however I am driven to say how impressive your images are both this one, the excellent recent Orion image and indeed all the others of yours I have had the privilege to view.

I don't buy books on how to but if you wrote one I would buy it.

I showed my daughter your Orion image and later , the only time she has made such a request, she asked me for the link to your image. If you knew the girl you would understand what a big deal it is that you impressed her to wish to look twice at an astro image.

I look forward to seeing the development of this image as no doubt it will be something to behold.

Alex

Very kind of you Alex. As it turns out there is a book in the works. The first draft is complete and editing almost complete

What a fantastic close-up on the Lagoon Peter

I hope you will get at least a few clear nights to finish the project soon.

Very nice Peter! It's the kind of resolution I'm hoping (but will likely not achieve) to get with the Mewlon 250

Really looking forward to the HaRGB.

A refreshing, intriguing take.

We had noticed how well the Bok globules stood out.

You've made both the highs and the lows - the assorted shock fronts and teh dust detail very salient.

Looking forward to that book.

Gee even the bright hourglass nebula in the core has heaps of detail. Very nice. A 20 mp high QE camera, looks like its working very well.

Thanks...but to clarify, I can see why you may have thought this was taken with a QHY183c...it was not (I was simply referring to another camera used that evening..plus the text on the linked page also has the details )

It was my "old faithful" ....a SBIG STX16803....a colour CMOS chip is not a good choice for 5nm bandpass filters. Hot hatches are fun, but sometimes only big-block American muscle will do

Ta and ditto, the Mewlon should be a good up-close-and-personal tool for the job

Thanks Sauvi...thought I was on final approach last night...but the usual coastal rubbish clouds rolled in. Maybe tonight
