Second NB image

NGC7293 Helix Nebula

Taken using ZWO filters.


1.5 hrs each of Ha and O3 with 20 x darks, dark flats and flats.

Processed in APP. Ha(red), O3(blue) and Ha+O3(green).

Very nice indeed. I know very little about digital AP, having spent over 50yrs
doing film, so hesitate to offer criticism or advice, but it seems to me that the background is very noisy.

Thanks, Ray! Yes I fully agree. I couldn’t figure out how to reduce the noise and still preserve some detail.

I’ll work on it some more, maybe add more data when the weather clears 👍🏼

Great image Neuro!

The Nebula itself has good colour and detail.

And yes, you will have to do your research to manage the background, and noise reduction in APP.

Using PI, I took your image and extracted the luminance.
Then used it as a mask and reduced the background lightness, without affecting the nebula.
Followed by a simple noise reduction.

Wow, that looks great!

Did you do all that in PI or can I do that in APP as well? So much to learn!

Do you think more data would help?

Suggest you do the video tutorials at the APP website.
And yes, it should do what you need.

More data is always better than less!
