Hi Greg - I attended the zoom presentation on Saturday.

As best as I can remember:

Mark Polsen won the Nightscape section and was the overall winner.
Jon ("Imme" here on IIS) won the Deep Sky section with his rendition of NGC 6188. I think you picked up a Highly Commended for your LMC image .
Peter Ward won the Lunar & Planetary section with his Hadley Rille lunar image.
I can't recall too much else right now but I believe the full results might be published later this week.

I picked up a HC in Video Animations & one in Nightscapes so not a total bust.

I have to say I am disappointed by Canon Australia's response to this year's awards.

After having their logo promoted for the better part of a year looks like they withdrew their sponsorship *after* the award winners were announced.

In previous years it has to be acknowledged Canon have been wonderful sponsor.

I note on the CWAS/Malin results page the Canon logo has been removed.

Will this be the last of Malin Awards?

Perhaps so, to quote from the movie "The right stuff" without the bucks, there is no Buck Rogers.

Canon's profit is done 93.9% so they still made a profit but its a hell of a crash.

No doubt they are tightening their belt everywhere.

That's pretty disappointing. Some of the comments made during the presentation make more sense now.

I wonder what the sponsorship cost them? Was it mainly just the prizes? I doubt too many entered only for the prizes so that may not make a lot of difference although its nice they had prizes.

What sort of comments?

Greg.

So Peter do you think this means Canon are not intending to hand out any prize vouchers for the 2020 awards ?
