How to add Ha?

Greetings Earthlings.

When shooting nebula and I have LRGB, how/where do I add the Ha layer? To the Luminance or red channel or both? It's rather a wide Ha filter at estimate 12nm.

Hi Kevin

When I do my LRGB Ha and OIII colour images. I add my Ha channel to the red. You can add it also to the Lum channel if you wish to see what that can produce.

If you have Pixinsight there is a good workflow you can follow.

Thanks Ben. I'll give that a try. I don't use PI, just Photoshop. I'm too old and senile now to learn a new program like that.

Kevin, in Photoshop just add it as an extra layer, like any other clipped colour layer. You have choices when it comes to colour, for example for something like M83 which has Ha nodes in the spirals, I will skew it slightly magenta to highlight them in the mix. As always, with Photoshop, it is your choice as far as artistic impression.

Hi Kevin,

I’ve found Marco Lorenzi’s method to be the most successful to blend Ha with RGB. See instructions at this thread. 😊
