I enjoy binoculars for daytime and night time use.
I have read so many advisories against zoom binoculars, but are they justified? Perhaps at one time, but are the modern models better?
I just purchased a set of Nikon 10-21X50s and I have to say I like them a lot, but I have only had them for a few weeks.

Positive points
- sharp image - collimation is excellent
- bright
- Comfortable to hold and adjust
- Overall mechanicals are smooth are easy to use
- zoom is very smooth and enough light for the magnification for daytime use
Negatives
- They are heavier than 10X50s
- Minimum focus distance is 49 feet. Not an issue for astronomy but perhaps for some daytime uses, like bird watching.
- field of view, at 10X is only 3.9 degrees as opposed to a typical 6 degrees for 10X50s
So, if you own and use zoom binoculars I would love to hear the joy or the pain that you have experienced with your zooms.
Happy camper?
Never again?
