A post of praise for a local supplier.
Hi All,
About two months ago my Sbig camera developed a major fault, though it had probably been showing signs of the fault for a few months beforehand. It was out of warranty by about two months when I first notified the Australian supplier.
I shipped the camera back to Sydney, from whence it travelled to the US and has now return, fixed. The invoice for the repair shows that the repair costing about $500 was still done under warranty, costing me nothing except the postage to Sydney.
Now, I know that under Australian Consumer Law I would probably have been entitled to the repair, but the fact remains that the supplier did this without question.
I have, in the past, not been totally committed to buying locally for these things, and even for this purchase I considered the initial purchase from an OS supplier. I'm now very glad I did not.
Now awaiting clear skies for some testing!
Cheers
Stuart

Is there any reason for not mentioning the suppliers name? They certainly deserve praising and recognition.

I find it poor form to be invoiced and credited for a warranty service. It's like one is showing you how big a favour they are doing for you even though there is a legal obligation to do so. I find it a distasteful practise, and one our businesses would never follow.
But, great news the unit was repaired.

I think most people would be able to deduce the supplier from the information given. A Sydney based authorised Sbig dealer. Pretty much narrows it down to one.
The main reason that I didn't mention him is because the post related to buying local to get this sort of coverage.
I sent the dealer a personal note of thanks.
Cheers

I am pleased to hear that you have had a positive outcome Stuart, I would liked to have said the same about my dealings with the said dealer.

You said it first Fred. By the way, better check your dictionary Fred i.e. "Palava" is the correct spelling not "Palva".

Which dictionary? The correct spelling is of course: palaver.

You're dead right, "Palaver" is the correct spelling (according to the Oxford dictionary). I knew I should have bought a decent dictionary, not the one I bought from Clint's. Mind you, "Palava" is also commonly used which suggests that it doesn't really seem to matter how you spell words these days, at least if it is close. So, my sincere apologies to Fred is in order, sorry Fred.

This is a requirement under US tax law if the company is going to take the deduction.
SBIG repair center is in California.
