A few moon pics

Just the moon:

9.25 SCT @ f/10 and f/20. about 1400 frames each
Canon 60d video.
Poor seeing (lots of atmospheric waves across the moon).
I don't image the moon much - but it was too bright for DSOs.

Thanks Gus.

I can never get the sharp moon images others get. Probably a combination of seeing conditions, my equipment and my abilities.

Hi Tony

Some nice images of a few good old favourite regions of mine.

Are the prime focus, I have found that with a DSLR sized chip, my image quality can suffer at the edges unless I use the Celestron x0.63 Reducer Corrector, although even then there is still room for improvement.

How are you focusing the image; is it manually?

Seeing conditions are so critical at these image scales.

What Align/Stack program do you use?

Cheers

Dennis

The seeing conditions were quite poor - very rough movement, that doesn't help. I focus manually - at f/20 it isn't easy. Also using a cheap 2x barlow probably doesn't help either.
I use registax to stack and for wavelets.
The seeing conditions in Melbourne is rarely better than about 2-3". In fact lately the typical seeing conditions is clouds.

Hi Tony

I found that using a motorised focuser significantly improved the image quality of my medium to high resolution lunar images.

Just being able to make micro adjustments to the focus, whilst looking on a computer screen without physically touching the OTA/Focuser, really changed things for me.

Either by using a Bahtinov Mask on a nearby bright star or just eyeballing the smaller craters on the moon’s surface until they snap into sharp focus.

I started off with a JMI Moto Focus with a hand controller, then purchased their USB Focuser so I can now focus from the Notebook screen.

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks Brian and Dennis.
Actually a bit more processing in Registax can help too. I've done a bit more processing of the last image. I think it's better?

Tony.
