Skywatcher Synscan SPEC

I’m going to try SPEC on my HEQ5 mount via the Synscan version 4 handcontroller
Can anyone advise whether the PEC is saved on the mounts chip board or in the handcontroller and whether the handcontroller is merely a means to record and save PEC , as I usually only use the handcontroller for PA , then disconnect it and control the mount through EQMOD and Stellarium
I know you have to park the mount with the handcontroller to save the PEC but do you retain it if you disconnect the handcontroller and use EQMOD thereafter
At this stage I don’t want to use EQMOD PEC, my aim is to hopefully use Synscan SPEC and PHD2 PPEC
Hope the above makes sense
Any advice or feedback would be appreciated
Thanks
