Tripod spreader for EQ6?

I'm using a non-standard mount attachment bolt on my EQ6 tripod which means I can't use the supplied tripod spreader / EP holder. I'm looking at after-market tripod spreaders and so far have only found this one: http://www.tpiastro.com/spreaders.htm

It looks well made, but is quite expensive at US$240 + shipping (& it will cost a fair bit to send to Australia).

Can anyone suggest any alternatives?

Thanks!

John

Diy

Can you weld the standard spreader to the non-standard part?

Hi John,

I too would like to build a spreader for my EQ6, what I was considering was buying Three O-Clamps and then attach a wooden platform between them.

These O-clamps are used widely for stage lighting. A quick google gave me this website where they have reasonable range.

I have used the same 50mm clamps as Bill for my old 50mm refractor and as accessory mounting points on the upper legs of the LX90 Meade tripod.
Very effective although I had not considered using 3 of them to support a tray for a battery that may improve stability.
Got mine a bit cheaper from here.

Here's another option which works out to about AU$300 shipped: http://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/...-like-EQ6.html

The leg clamps aren't a perfect fit (slightly oversize) but they still grab the leg ok. The TPI may be better in that regard.

That's an interesting idea, but I'd need to find a welder which could end up more expensive that other options!

Good catch! It's even cheaper without the 19% sales tax for non-EU purchases.

I'll investigate further.

John.
