China delivers again- ordered some stuff on Saturday, arrived this morning (free post).

Finally got an update on USPS re my item mentioned above. Scanned as departed US 27 May. Auspost shows nothing of course though. Aus post webpage says US imports currently 5 to 7 weeks.

Still waiting on one item ex Switzerland going nearly 2 months.

Lewis, how did you get your order from China so quickly? I have bought
hunderds of items from there over the years, and my best ever is around 18 days, and usually around 20-22 days. I have rarely seen express post offered by Chinese vendors.

Bought on eBay, regular SpeedPak free post offered by most Chinese sellers on eBay and AliExpress. With Canberra being close to Sydney - the ONLY port I believe air mail is currently coming into - I assume this is why we get items ex-China so rapidly.

I placed another order ex-China for some items at half the Australian price this morning. Already marked as posted, so we'll see how long these 2 take.

I had two stepper drivers delivered from china so quickly I had no idea what the package was as I didn't expect it for weeks, I had selected a lower priced economy shipping rather than free, but never expected that to make much difference. I'd say they arrived within ten days.

Another order for a helical focuser is marked as departed country of origin (China also) and has been that way for three weeks.

My cats eye collimator set is still sitting in Miami apparently and has been since April 24. I emailed James about it and he was aware of several orders stuck like that.

Still waiting on my bit from Agena via Ebay, Shipped with USPS on 03/04, black holed in California seven weeks ago on 08/04. The only advice Agena could only offer two weeks ago "It is still coming, shipping is slow under the virus, just wait". The USPS website now tells you that their call agents only have access to the same tracking information as you can get on the website, in other words "Yes sir, it appears that it was last scanned seven weeks ago" I.E. not much use.

I should have had a custom adapter made up locally, it would not have cost much more and I would have had it six weeks ago. I am certainly leery for the foreseeable future about buying anything that is not already on Australian soil.

Pro tip regarding overseas deliveries, don't use any postal services. The delays are beyond ridiculous and no indication of when they will get back to normal. If the option is there, use FedEx or DHL. I've been funneling my orders for the business through those two and the US is five days delivery, China is six, Singapore is three.

I have just received a notice from USPS.
My parcel has just arrived at their International terminal in Chicago Illinois and is now in transit to me.
Nearly five weeks to travel the 477miles=770kms from Warrensburg Missouri to Chicago
I could have walked it in that time, and i'm an old man.
My parcel was sent "Priority Paid" cost US$ 109:00= aprox AU$176:00.
Even on their web site USPS state Priority Mail is not effected by Corvid-19.
Now lets see how long the second part of the journey will take
Cheers

Yes it is.
I think one could possibly have a case for fraud,as I paid
for priority mail, and obviously,it is no where near that.
Not happy Jan.

The way things are in the world at the moment, you should thank your
lucky stars if you receive it at all. As I said in my earlier post, it took me 24 days to get my small packet from Melbourne.

I just hope Chicago is doing better than Los Angeles.

If it ever shows up it will be a paperweight. I have given up on mine and am going to get something made up locally.

Helical focuser ordered from China on Friday. Currently at Chullora sorting centre, so likely delivery tomorrow. M42 male/M42 Male adaptor (bought for a whopping $6 including post) arrived into Sydney Customs today (ordered Saturday). Unbelieveable... Chinese service pre-COVID was not this quick, so one can assume they are trying hard to regain their position. Fair enough, I can live with that.

I can say that Andrews has been absolutely SUPERB this entire period, so they definitely keep me as a loyal buyer. Luke has been great, answers questions quickly and the prices are better than everyone else. I ordered a NEW HEQ5 mount for less than the price many people here sell them second - or third - hand. They definitely have NOT gouged during the pandemic. Kudos!

As for my US item...it now says "Arrived at origin airport"...so it still has not left the USA (despite the obviously now redacted/changed prior entry) after now over a month, Global Express.

Email from Agena .... will issue a refund tomorrow to my PayPal Account.

I stressed it wasn't any fault by them.....I also mentioned I will continue to support them if future Astro needs are necessary ( items not available in AU )
They have always provided good service in the past.

I ended up going to Bunnings and sourced a length of heavy duty spring and cut it to size for the mirror cell.

Woot. ASI385MC sent from Bintel today (ordered mid April). I probably ordered in in the worst possible time one could. Now it's in the hands of AusPost. I hope there's some warranty left by the time I get it.
