camera for Hyperstar - qhy8pro or qhy10?

Which would be the better camera to use on a hyperstar system - remembering that it would be left on there in an observatory, the QHY8pro or the QHY10?

Have a look also at the QHY8L - Gama has them in stock.

I concur with Peter about the QHY8L..very good price to boot.

But you should seriously look at the 10 or 12, as the potential resolution of the Hyperstar may be better than what the 6MPixel sensor can deliver.

hell david i have been going through all of this over the past few months and as far as i can tell with a c11 like i have got, working on from what i have read 2.5 arcseconds per pixel as an upper limit gives a maximum pixel size of about 6.8 microns
i noticed that the qhy8 is a quite a bit more than 7 microns so there may be some issues apart from its profile
i am sure some other members can shed more photons on this subject

formula

yes there is
pixel scale = 205 . pixel size / f.l
so
pixel size = 2.5(upper limit arc.s/pixel) times f.l (560mm @f2) /205

interestigly i picked up another thread revealing for hyperstar imaging aim for 0.5 - 1.5 arcseconds per pixel which the math reveals around a 4.5 micron size

that qhy10 seems as though it was made for hyperstar imaging david because i think from memory that the max chip size is 28mm for f2 imaging at the longest diagonal
just working the chip diagonal on the qhy10 it works out to be 28.9mm so nigh on perfect from the info i have gleamed over a couple of months research

what about the Orion Parsec 8300C 8.3MP CCD Camera with resolution of 8.3 megapixel, square 5.4 micron x 5.4 micron Kodak chip would that be too big withj the body? never seen one in the flesh? is it sealed like the QHY?

Dave,

What size scope are you going to use it with? The QHY9 body works fine all the way down to a C8, as does the Starlight H18 cam. But you'll need a C11/14 for the other cameras, and to be honest I'm not sure what the effect is having an asymetric obstruction to the light path.

david here is the address for the info which is extremely interesting and i am sure will help you narrow your camera choices

first go to photo basics on the left then choose ccd cameras at the top go to bottom of page and in red click choosing a ccd camera
it gives you all the math and the relative chip sizes to work out hyperstar imaging
