Extension tube question

This is my first venture into the photography forum.
Taking first steps to connect my Canon 550D to my Orion ST80.
I have the necessary T ring, but now need an extension tube.
Question. Are the extension tubes offered on ebay for $10 ~ $16 OK?
It's only a tube, no glass, so can't see the need to spend too much.
Thanks

Can't see why not if the threads are ok and they're relatively square. I bough a lot of compression rings from ebay. no problem.

You get what you pay for, in my experience they are ok but the ones from stores such as Bintel and MyAstroshop are not that much more expensive and carry a warrantee that you can collect if you are not satisfied and you get the benefit of local service and experience which in astro photography is worth paying for.

Another (better IMHO) option is to use photography macro extension tubes. Screw your T-adapter on to the scope and then use the tubes between it and the camera. You can use as many as you need, everything is positively attached rather than thumbscrews and you're less likely to get vignetting.

Steve.

You can try them. But the images on an ST80 might be pretty disappointing. It might make a good guide scope but has too much CA for imaging - I've tried one for live imaging with an asi224.
