Run/Start capacitors

A quick question for the electrick'ems out there - I had a 7uF run/start cap spew it's guts and die in our tumble drier (after 12 years, not bad going). I ordered the new one online - no one locally had the one I needed (all were 6uF, and I am not taking the risk).

Anyway, does polarity matter with run/start caps? I believe it does NOT, but need to be 100% sure so I don't have another pop'n'spew. (I have marked the old one where the blue and white were JUST in case).

My wife said "Let's go buy a new dryer"...I said give me 30 minutes to check it over first (it was still humming trying to turn). I regreased all bearings/pulleys, then hand turned the drum, and it fired into life, so I knew the motor was fine. Made sure the cap was discharged, then instantly felt that the guts had erupted from the side (hence why I didn't get a nice discharge spark ). She seems to like me more now I fixed the dryer for $18.95 vs $600 for a new one

Hi Lewis

Given that this will be connected to ac it must be a non-polarised cap.

Thanks. Arrives today so here’s hoping it doesn’t end in a stinking pop
