Troubleshooting Guiding

Not sure if this is a software issue or something mechanical. I have been guiding my G11 in Maxim for a long time without any trouble over the Ethernet, running ASCOM and the Gemini.net software.

Of the recent string of problems, this is probably one of the most annoying one. After the normal calibration routine etc. the reported error in x and y can be between +/- 20, even as high as 40 in some cases. It seems to occur more frequently if I guide on a bright star, or closer to the edge of the frame. If the error was this high I would expect to see the guide star shift dramatically on the guider image, but it doesn't. Even with the aggressiveness at 100% the errors slowly diminish in units of 1-2 pixel per exposure.

Is it a new occurrence? Cable drag or a change in balance perhaps

Yes it is. I switched computers and the problem has gone away.....haven't gone back and tried the old computer yet, but would be interested to see if there is a difference? I know the HD is on its way out, but I'm not sure how that can affect it?
