September 12 prom...

The sun seems to have lost its mojo for a bit...with global structures being replaced by smaller active events.

Pushed the magnification as much as I dare to capture this image today

Stunning Peter, as always. I grabbed a shot or two today, but certainly not at that sort of image scale.
Stunning.

Very impressive. I like the higher magnification view.

Wow – that’s the 1st solar image that I have seen which induces the “flying-over-the-limb-in-a-spacecraft” perception. Lovely shot.

Cheers

Lots going on there in terms of different types of proms. A very dynamic capture.
Thanks Derek

Nice piece Pete. Like the proms (all of them).

Thanks guys... The dynamic range in the image is quite high... the loop proms were *very* faint, and were layered in with appropriate masking....I've also discovered there is some merit to running a single etalon as they allow much shorter exposure times, which "freeze" moments of good structure within average seeing.

Now that is an awesome capture Peter. Really neat processing. I have come to the same conclusion about DS etalons. Never use mine for imaging, just viewing.

A tremendous image there Peter, I really love these limb activities and your image is superb. Those should be the leftovers of the AR11565.

I am happy to see the fever of solar imaging in high resolution is spreading out quickly.

As for DS etalons, I think they are nice for surface details, where you get much more contrasty images than you would get with a SS configuration. For proms actually SS makes more sense.
