How short should a short sub be?

context
I am working on an image at the moment and have star blooming going on as expected. I have an NABG CCD

I am capturing shorter subs with the intention of stacking a whole pile of them and then throwing them into a processing program of choice to combine them with the longer ones. (likely to be PI)

The capture plan is to take say 60 subs at 5 secs each for the filters where I am seeing blooming (on this target, all but green). The single subs are going to be quite noisy so am thinking the more the merrier then calibrate and combine?

Interested in how other people approach this as its a first for me.

Hints and tips more than welcome.

Thanks
