Canon launches EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM

Yay.

Newly designed; 10mm shorter than the old model. Superior aberration correction than previous model. Has new coatings and minimum focus distance of just 0.38m. Excellent.

A couple of standard EF wide angle lenses also released which feature four stops of image stabilisation.

US$2,399.

That lens sounds great. Reviews of the 24-70 occassionally complain about the distortions at the 24mm end. Perhaps they fixed that.

omg, just saw the MTF charts for this new lens.

It blows /everything/ away, including the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM at 70mm, and, we know just how incredible that lens is.

The price tag makes sense.

Simon,

The IS has made its way into the 24 and 28mm f/2.8 lenses. I am guessing it is for video work.

Pity that they didn't add it to this one. :/

How do you read those graphs?
