Hi all,

The Blue Mountains Astronomical Club, Inc., is holding a commemorative celebration to commemorate the Apollo 11 Moon landing and Australia's role in the mission at Echo Point, Katoomba, this coming Saturday the 13th of July.

Very special permission was granted by the Traditional Owners and the Blue Mountains City Council to be able to conduct this celebration at Echo Point.

We will be setting up a number of telescopes from 4pm to 9pm, focusing on the Moon and planets from this location.

Professor Ray Norris & Mr Robert Brand are special guests who will join us to share in their experiences of Apollo 11, the part Australia played in it, and subsequent research that has come from it.

We will be joined by Aunty Sharyn Halls, an Gundungurra Elder, and a couple of Blue Mountains Council members.

More information about the Blue Mountains Astronomical Club, Inc. can be found on the website: www.bmastro.org.au

Hope to see you there.

Alex.

The occasion proved to be an enormous success!

We were lucky with the direction of the wind that despite its intensity, it was blowing up over us while we were there, making things actually bearable and with little consequence to the scopes.

Several hundred people shared in this experience with us. A really lovely and joyful time had by members and visitors.

Thanks to those members who braved the elements to participate. Without you this would not have been anywhere as successful as it was

Alex.

Ah very nice, thanks Alex.

The turnout was pretty good, considering the temperature was 1 degree and the gale blowing !

Despite the bad seeing and weather conditions, a lot of the guests seemed to enjoy the event. It was a good night had by all, couple more pics showing a few of the scopes set up.
