This was my first Dr Who episode (movie) completed... Still no idea whats happening :/ Will leave it to others to work out I think...
Ooops better add, I enjoyed it though, something different.... Was good to see a certain Dr Who I remember, near the end.... Not giving it away in case others haven't seen it.
I loved it, I have watched Dr4 Who since I was 10 y.o & I was certainly not there from the beginning. The story line is certainly wide open with this pivitol moment in the history of the Doctor.
If you saw it at the movies, I just loved the bit before the movie started. It had the whole audience laughing.
I wasn't the only one wiping tears away at the end of the movie.

The short answer is No! He is the resurrection of Paul McGann version of the Doctor. See YouTube mini episode The Night of the Doctor. I am surprised that they didn't show this before the episode "The Day of the Doctor", as it explains where John Hurt comes in:

I thought the same thing, how can he be so old? Must be a parallel universe, or maybe when they regenerate, the older version just carries on the same time line and the regenerated version continues on a new timeline, but hey it's Dr Who, so anything goes. That is what I love about it!

First I am a massive DW fan from the 60's to now. But these "specials" leave me sooo bored. I fell asleep on this latest offering. The only special I liked was the Space Titanic with Kylie.
BTW, the BBC special after "The Day of the Doctor" on the ABC about how DW production originally came to be was brilliant.
I have attached a pic of the back of my car. This gives away how big a nerd I am. I found out that the local ACB shop have been getting a lot of flack about these as people keep asking for them. I hand cut them a couple of years ago as a joke and have had a lot of request for them since. Not wanting to bring down the BBC on me I have not given in to pressure.
I watched it for the second time last night an enjoyed it (again). It wasn't perfect - laid on a bit thick at times - but that's Doctor Who and sci-fi in general. As a weekly serial, it's still bloody good after all these years.
Still trying to work out the reference to the better looking sister that Osgood (the scientist with the Tom Baker scarf) made. She is obviously the daughter of Sgt Osgood (from the old series) but who is the sister? Clara Oswald?? Names as similar....
That is what I love about it!
