filters

I want to buy a polarizing filter, I was looking at a dual filter in 11/4and the guy at Bintel suggested getting 2 @ $19 each and screwing them together and I can still make adjustments, he suggested this because of the cost $38 instead of $109 for a Dual. He said that getting the 2 will do the same job.
Any thoughts on this?

I'm not sure if there's any difference in quality, but you can get the adjustable polarizing filters on eBay for peanuts. I've got a couple and they work well.
