Light Boxes

I have just recently completed building myself a couple of light boxes and I am very pleased with the results. If anyone is interested in me building one for them, PM me and I can discuss price etc, one thing is for sure, they are going to be at least a third of the price of imported ones, and IMHO work just as well. The two attached images will give you some sort of idea of my construction. My method of construction allowes the light box to fit over the front of the telescope/dew shield, much like a cover so one does not need to balance it on the scope.
I use a 12v lighter type connector for the power, and each LED is rated at between 6000mcd and 12000mcd depending on the size of the box required.
If interested please feel free to ask any questions.

I have now completed 2 light boxes since the op and no issues. Started the third today. When I say no issues, I mean with the right hand, the left is another story and that is next to be fixed...

Good outcome, certainly a challenge in the winter building them. The glue takes forever to dry, thank heavens for an indoor slow combustion heater to assist.

Received mine not long ago and the craftsmanship is outstanding with an extremely even field illumination. Peter was also very helpful in troubleshooting and replacing the first dimmer switch which was DOA. Thanks Peter, and highly recommended for anyone else out there thinking of getting one of these.

Just collected a new light box from Peter for my new refractor. Beautifully made. Super light and really neat. He's got it down to a fine art now and the dimmer unit is an external plug in. Highly recommended. Thanks Pete.

Getting a couple of people asking me if I am still doing these. Obviously I am or this thread would have disappeared.

I have built around a dozen since my hand operation, so that is all good, the other hand is next on the agenda, probably in January next year.

Looks like I am going to have my left thumb operated on in the next couple of months, so like the previous op, I will be out of operation for building these for around 3 months after the procedure, at present it is penned in for mid January, but might try to put it back to the end of Feb. Don't feel like spending summer with a stinking hot cast wrapped around my wrist and thumb.

Just an update, the operation has been put back until 7 March. So I will be out of service for at least 3 months after that date..

Are you still making the lightboxes for this year? or are they on hold until after your operation and recovery?

Hi Kev, if you could communicate via my email, exfso2@aussiebb.com.au I will give you a quote. Will need to know outside diameter of dewshield and whether you need a dimmer or not.

Cheers

Peter

Just advising that I am having the op on my left thumb 7th March, so will be out of action for at least 3 months after that assuming all goes well.
