M104

Hi All,
I have finally gotten to process a bit of data.....this was taken a few months ago.

Just processed this on my laptop while away from home, so let me know if the coloration/brightness is off. Thanks.

Hi Tim,

Colours and brightness look good and contrast on the edge of the disk looks great. I do see posterization in the extended halo however. Is this a jpeg compression thing perhaps?

Regards,

EB

Yaaaay! finally an image from Tim

...sorry

Looks great Tim, some excellent detail in the dust lane there Always hard to decide how much of the brightness in the core to suppress..huh?..should I reveal the inner disc at the expense of flattening and dimming the galaxy or should I leave it brighter so the galaxy looks more bold and real life.. In the end dealers choice I guess...it is cool to be able to look deep inside the disc though .

Mike

It looks very good. I can only see a relatively small image so hard to say much but at the scale I looked at it seems quite detailed. As Mike mentioned it is a bit of a decision on how to best process it. The halo is probably more extensive than shown (but that's true of virtually any galaxy we image) but it can wash out detail in the ring if you're not careful. Perhaps a masked stretch would do it.

Greg.

Just saw this. Wow, yes it looks stunning. Star colours are really nicely done and the core is very well handled. You can really see the Supermassive black hole. As I recall its one of the largest known as well and you can see that in your image.
