NEQ6 Pro guiding issue

Hi all,

Recently I have upgraded my mount firmware, I have downloaded the new V3.30 BETA 29. After that, the mount was performing well, and no tracking issue. But, since that time I started getting problem with the autoguider (Lacerta MGEN), after selecting guide star-even brighter one, and when calibration started, the issue is only with the RA, since it will take very long time, ending with result between 50 to 60%, while DEC calibration completed as normal.
I went back to the old firmware version, but still no improvement. Stars shape looks much better without guider.
Could you please give any suggestion?

Thanks,

Might be helpful to provide more information on what guiding software you're using. With what settings? EQMod and version? How good is your polar alignment and balance? What scopes for imaging and guiding?

Hi Troy,
Thanks for viewing.
Its a standalone autoguider(Lacerta MGEN), no additional guiding software.
Parameters as in hand controller:
Gain 5
Exp 1400
wait 0
Thresh 10
RA:
Num 1
Tol 0.30
Aggr 40%
Mode 2

DEC:
Num 2
Tol 0.30
Aggr 40%
Mode 2
guiding scope SV 80mm, FL 560.
Before, with above setup I am getting 100% guider calibration result, and it was possible to expose up to 600 seconds subs with perfect round stars, imaging scope 127mm FL950mm f7.5.
But later even with shorter focal lenght imaging scope, result is not so good, it is clear from the autoguider calibration result, which will be between 50% to 60%.
polar alignment, leveling, and balance are perfect, with 10mm eyepiece, the mount are able to track star for 25 min without shifting (maximum I have tried, could be more).
It is not clear for me if it is guider or mount problem. Also there are no other nearby equipment to try guider with other mount.

Problem got solved, there was a loose connection in the cable connecting guider hand controller to mount (ST4). May be it got twisted somehow.

Good -
by the way - what was the "auto guide rate" set to in your hand controller?

It defaults to 0.5X - I think.
Sometimes that is not fast enough if you have a bad drift alignment.

cheers

Hi Allan,

Yes the rate is 0.5X, if you like to increase or decrease that rate you have to do it after each power on, otherwise it will take the default value 0.5X as you mention. Maximum focal length I am imaging with is 1625 (AT8RC), and this guiding rate seems to be OK.
Attached a single 600 seconds Ha, Just taken last night by ST8300M, AT8RC on NEQ6 guided by lacerta mgen, guide scope SV 80mm fl560. There is a slight drift, but I think it can be overcomed by perfect polar alignment.

Hi Mohammd,
That's good - you seem to have it all worked out.
I wish you well with your imaging.

cheers
Allan
