T-Mount system

Hello,

Here is proof that the T-Mount system is an international standard. I fitted the Canon 40D and the Pentax *ist DS to my Vixen refractor and focused on an object approx 100metres away. The focus position did not change when cameras were swapped, indicating that any body differences were catered for in the depth/design of the universal T Mount (Tamron Mount from 1957).

However, the trusty old Pentax had a “focus confirm” red rectangle blink on in the viewfinder, the Canon didn’t.

Cheers

Dennis

Hi Dennis

Thanks for taking the time to do this test, it will certainly help any one looking at changing camera brands regarding obtaining focus and the importance of getting the right T Mount for your camera.

Looking forward to picking up our new 40D on Tuesday.

Dennis,

Between me and my better 1/2 we have 2 20D's and one is set for the red focus confirm (My preference) and the other isnt.

Should be a setting you can change to get that working, or is it something thats been removed since the 20D.....

Thanks for the tip. I should have been clearer in my write up!

With all my Canon lenses, well, both of them, LOL, the focus confirm works fine and I can select all focus points or cycle through them.

Its only when I fit the Canon 40D to my telescopes that I lose this capability, although the Pentax retains it.

However, Remote Live View more than compensates for this minor inconvenience.

Cheers

Dennis
